New Headteacher Induction
Ensuring that all leaders receive high quality induction to support them in new roles
The Kent Headteacher Induction programme is a key part of the Kent Leadership Strategy.
It supports headteacher development through the early years of headship, to ensure new headteachers do not feel isolated and feel welcomed into the Kent community of school leaders. All new headteachers are allocated an experienced mentor.
The programme is cross-phase to encourage professional collaboration, development of networks, and the dissemination of good and outstanding practice.
Practising headteachers, often Kent Leaders of Education, are involved in the planning and delivery of the programme. The programme is shaped around the needs of new headteachers, with a flexible approach to the content of each session.
Following a welcome event for all new headteachers, involving senior LA officers and representatives of the Kent Association of Headteachers, (held in September, and April), a programme of six sessions takes place in terms 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6. The programmes are sufficiently flexible to enable a headteacher to join them at any point in the year. Places need to be booked in advance.
